No submissions after 11:59 tonight

Hey All!

Just a reminder that tonight at 11:59 is the last opportunity to turn anything in (FOR ALL CLASSES). That includes any late work, final projects, and any critique submissions.

ANYTHING TURNED IN AFTER 11:59 WILL NOT BE GRADED!

I hope you’ve been ok during this shut down and I really regret that we didn’t get more time in class to work and enjoy the community of like-minded artists. I appreciate you sticking with it and hope you have a good summer!

PS. be on the lookout for a survey (anonymous) about your class so you can offer some feedback on what went well and what I could do to improve. I use that info to make changes as needed, and it will be especially helpful in light of this online situation we found ourselves in.

Final 2 Weeks Schedule

Hey all!

Just a heads up about the schedule for this/next week:

There will be no Youtube live streams this week for figure classes. Work on your final projects and spend the week getting caught up on anything you might be missing.

Remember that I’ll take any late work with a 10% penalty so check canvas for any 0 scores and get that stuff resolved. You could really bump your grade that way.

I will have an open zoom session every day this week M-Th 10am-12pm, and 1-2:30pm for all classes where you can drop in and get feedback on in-progress finals or anything else you have questions about. The zoom number for that is: 115-562-672

Make sure to take note of the due date for your finals as you won’ be able to turn them in late. The date of your final is the latest date I will take any work (check the syllabus for the final date of your class, just note that instead of the listed time, you can turn your final in up until 11:59 on the due date.)

Please don’t put your final off until the last second, since you’ll need post it for critique and offer feedback to others to get full credit!

Hopefully you are all doing ok. Hang in there and please let me know if you need anything or have any questions!

Wednesday Shuffle (4/15)

Hey All!

Just by way of announcement, if you have things at the school you need to get from your lockers, there will be another chance to do so tomorrow, Wed 4/15 from 9am to 12pm. I have to be on campus for that to be possible, so it’s going to alter the meetings I have that day in the following way:

I will be available on zoom to ART 17/27 students (using your normal Meeting ID: 414-872-872) from 9am-12pm (I’ll be using the class computer) so you can pop in and ask questions about the current project, sketchbook, or home drawing.

We will change the ART 18 live stream to 1pm on youtube.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

Student Art Show Deadline APR 15th!!

Hi all!

Just a reminder that submissions for the student show are being accepted until The 15th.

I have seen some really good work come in to me and it would be a heartbreaking shame not to see it submitted for the student show!!

Submit your work ASAP!

If you are in Intermediate/Advanced classes you should really be submitting some work by default.

If you are in beginning figure drawing, remember that your submission to the show will satisfy your 3rd research images post.

If you missed the Sunday Due Date

Hi all!

This is just a reminder that if you missed the Sunday due date for any projects (check Canvas), you can still turn them in late until Friday. Remember that you will lose 10% of your grade for every day they are late, so get them in ASAP!

Please message me with any questions.

Change of Schedule this week

Hi all!

The president of Fresno City College released some direction to faculty, inviting us to use this week to further prepare for classes and adjust to this online situation.

With that in mind, here is the schedule for the coming week:

Monday and Tuesday – Anyone who doesn’t have their materials can come to campus and collect them from the lockers. Please check for your name on the following calendars and only come when you are scheduled (to observe social distancing):

Monday/Wednesday 8/18/28 (9am class)

Mon/Wed 17 (1pm class)

Tue/Thu 8/18 (9am class)

The rest of the week will look like this:

Wednesday 10am – Livestream for beginning figure drawing (Art 8) Youtube link

Wednesday 11:30am – recurring open Zoom session for all students (https://cccconfer.zoom.us/j/115562672)

Wednesday 1pm – Zoom for Intermediate/Advanced Drawing (Art 17/27)(https://cccconfer.zoom.us/j/401432887)

Thursday 10am – Live stream for intermediate figure drawing (Art 18) Youtube link

Thursday 11:30am – recurring open Zoom session (https://cccconfer.zoom.us/j/115562672)

Thursday 1pm – Zoom for Advanced Figure Drawing (Art 28) (https://cccconfer.zoom.us/j/796940869)

Friday 10am-4pm – Canvas chat for office hours (this will be a test of the chat option, so it may change if it turns out to be clunky or non-workable) Please see the sidebar in your canvas account for the chat area.

The next approach for beginning figure has been posted to youtube, so if you have your materials (black paper and white pencil) you can go ahead and get started on the drawing. Otherwise you can wait for the Wednesday live stream.

The weeks after that will have a more regular pattern, which you can see on the calendar on the home page of your canvas for the class.

Please check canvas for assignments that are being re-created with different due dates and parameters, and please message me if you have any questions or concerns!

Hope you’re staying safe,

-Caleb

Friday Meeting on ZOOM

Hey all! This has been a crazy week full of uncertainty and it seems that as soon as I get some information to share with you it changes and I have to switch it up on you. Here is the plan for now:

Rather than flood the school to get our supplies tomorrow, I’d like to meet in a conference call with you all. If you were planning to come get your things tomorrow, please plan on getting them next week instead. This way we can keep the numbers of students at the school low and practice good social distancing. If you already have your supplies at home, that makes it easier. I have put together a schedule for you so you can come get your things in a 30 min window and avoid crowding. (See link below)

I’m going to hold 2 meetings tomorrow on zoom. One at 10am and the other at 2pm. Please attend whichever one you can (you don’t need to attend both). I will be answering questions and giving you the very tentative plan for the rest of the semester.

If you have not installed zoom on your phone or laptop you will be prompted to do so before you can join the meeting. It’s one of the ways we are going to keep in touch this semester, so go ahead and install it however is convenient for you. Here is a link that may make it easier:

https://zoom.us/home

You can also just call in from your phone as well at any of the given numbers. (though this will be more inconvenient as you won’t be able to see my screen or the visual info I share.)

Here is the information for the meeting at 10am tomorrow (Friday 3/20):

Here is what I need from you:

  1. Please respond to the email I sent asking if you need black paper and white pencil. I bought a bunch from Allard’s right before they closed and can get them to you next week.
  2. Please attend one of the zoom meetings tomorrow so I can get a sense of where the class stands right now and get you some more information (as well as get you used to those meetings as we will do a few more of them as the semester progresses)
  3. Check your name at this link to see when you should come get your things next week. It is critical that you note the time window you are scheduled for and to not come outside that 30 minute window. (it will be during your regular class meeting time to avoid conflict, please let me know if this doesn’t work for you and we can make other arrangements):

Monday/Wednesday 8/18/28 (9am class)

Mon/Wed 17 (1pm class)

Tue/Thu 8/18 (9am class)

PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE WITH AN EMAIL OR CANVAS MESSAGE CONFIRMING YOU RECEIVED IT SO I KNOW THAT IT WAS SUCCESSFUL AND THAT YOU ARE CHECKING YOUR EMAIL/CANVAS NOTIFICATIONS!!!

As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to message me.

Correction! Don’t come on campus

Hi all!

Sorry for the back-and-forth. Things are developing rapidly. Please don’t come on campus this week AT ALL. The lockers won’t be open and I won’t send any more messages saying differently. I will extend any and all due dates to account for this disruption, so please don’t worry about getting projects done for now. Once we have a clearer picture of things, I will lay out how we are going to proceed.

Again, nothin is due this week, and all due dates will be shifted in canvas or removed until further notice. If the school locks down campus, I will come up with other ways for you to do your work.

Please message me if you have any questions.
